Breckenridge is 105 miles from Colorado Springs. Loveland is located 120 miles.
Breckenridge is a mountain much larger, but there are large crowds, the height is much greater.
I went to Eldora (1 hour from Denver) and Winter Park (2h "ski train") I liked the 1st, cheaper, faster lifts and with lovely views. Winter Park is great, but obviously more expensive and have for a long snake. Please do not with the "Ski Train", if you want, just in time to be driving.
Loveland is a good start. This is a relatively quick drive, and although the slopes are not the most difficult, is certainly a good place to, not when you start to ski the Rocky Mountains.
